Così chiamato dal nome della città posta in un anfiteatro naturale, alla confluenza dei fiumi Nera e Serra. Fondata nel 672 a.C. la città (anticamente chiamata Interamna), a lungo famosa per le vicine Cascate delle Marmore, è oggi un importante centro industriale.

Named for the city located in a natural amphitheater, at the confluence of the Serra and Nera rivers.
