Cosė chiamato in memoria di Giuseppe Tonucci (1938-1988), campione italiano di ciclismo su strada e su pista. Durante la sua lunga carriera vinse numerose competizioni in Europa, distinguendosi nei Giochi Olimpici di Roma nel 1960 e nei Campionati del Mondo in Olanda.
